John Simpson has
served the St. James Cathedral Parish since 2021. Previously, he served
the parish in the role of Pastoral Care Minister from 2007 to 2016. In
his current role as Director of Faith Formation he coordinates Marriage
Preparation, Welcome Back, Baptism, and Adult Education. Raised
Catholic in the Archdiocese of Chicago, where he attended Catholic
school, he later became an ordained protestant minister. He served as
pastor of churches in NY, IA, CT, and Seattle. He returned to the
Catholic faith in 2003. In addition, he worked with and wrote curriculum
for Prison Fellowship, taught as adjunct faculty in theology at Seattle
Pacific University, and served as faculty in the Cabrini Ministry
Training program. Additionally, he worked at the St. Vincent de Paul
Parish in the role of pastoral assistant for adult faith and family
formation from 2016 to 2021. John holds a doctorate from
Andover Newton Theological School in Boston MA, a master of divinity
from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA, and bachelor of arts
in biblical studies from Seattle Pacific College.
