Sayuko Setvik
joined St. James Immigrant Assistance in February 2019 as the Tutoring
Coordinator. She is delighted to bring together her passion for service
and justice, and her experience as an ESL/EFL teacher in the U.S.,
Japan, and China.
A native of Japan, she has lived and traveled to many parts of the
world, meeting and working with people from diverse backgrounds. She
loves learning about cultures and languages, and sharing stories. Sayuko
believes that language and intercultural skills are powerful tools to
foster understanding, empathy, and bridge-building in the world.
She holds a Bachelor’s in Economics from Brandeis University, and a
Master in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from
the School for International Training.
