Caroline Okello was born in Homa bay in Kenya, and migrated
to the United States in 2009 with her youngest daughter of her four
adult children. With the support of St. James Immigrant Assistance,
Caroline naturalized as a US citizen on September 7, 2016.
A holder of Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the
University of Nairobi, Kenya, Caroline worked for International and
non-profit organizations in Kenya and Rwanda, including the
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and International
Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (The Federation).
In the US, Caroline has worked for Sunrise Services, Compass Health, and
most recently the Future of Flight Aviation Center and Boeing Tour as
Visitor Services Associate Director. In addition to English,
Caroline also speaks Luo, Swahili, French and Sign language.
Passionate about volunteering, Caroline volunteers at her home parish,
St. Mary Magdalen (SMM) in Everett, Catholic Community Services, Everett
Serra Club, American Red Cross Snohomish Chapter, and was the Northern
Deanery President of Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women (ACCW) until
11/2017. In empowering less fortunate girls in Africa and helping them
stay in school, Caroline spearheaded sewing of reusable hygiene kits
with fellow parishioners at SMM. Pilot distribution of these kits went
to two schools in Caroline’s village in Kenya, and thereafter
distribution has spread to an orphanage in Bungoma, Kenya, and to
Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi and Burkina Faso. Caroline is a cradle catholic
and takes great delight in her faith which she has passed on to her
children.
