Laura Murton joined St. James Immigrant Assistance in the Fall of
2021. She’s excited to be a part of such a dedicated team and
shares their passion for service, justice and dignity for all people.
Laura grew up in Pittsburgh, the youngest of ten children, majored in
economics at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and then began her
career as a paralegal in Washington, DC at a large national defense law
firm. There she met her husband, Chris, a Seattle native and the
youngest of thirteen – a match made in heaven. They moved to
Seattle where Laura continued legal assistant work in a variety of
settings before joining what would become a nationally recognized
class-action and complex litigation firm focusing on the rights of
consumers, employees, whistleblowers and others.
After 16 years as a paralegal, Laura left the workforce to raise
their four children. She is grateful to join the Immigrant Assistance
legal services team and put her years of experience in the legal field
to use serving and learning from the immigrant community.
