Lent is a
privileged time of interior pilgrimage towards Him Who is the fount of mercy
Pope Benedict XVI
THIS WEBSITE HAS BEEN CREATED with two groups of pilgrims in mind: Pilgrims-to-Rome and Pilgrims-at-Home! Whether we are accompanying the Cathedral Choir on their pilgrimage of music and prayer to the great basilicas and cathedrals of Italy, or staying and praying at our own great cathedral here in Seattle, we are all on pilgrimage. Because, as Pope Benedict XVI observed in his letter for Lent 2006, Lent is in itself a pilgrimage: “It is a pilgrimage in which He Himself accompanies us through the desert of our poverty, sustaining us on our way towards the intense joy of Easter.”
FOR EACH DAY OF THE PILGRIMAGE,
you will find a page that includes a little history of the places our pilgrims
will be visiting, background on some of the saints, a meditation, and some
suggested prayer intentions.
There are also special prayers for morning,
noon, and evening, composed by choir chaplain Ward Johnson.
PILGRIMS are invited to visit the site during their travels, and post a quick anecdote, impression, or memory at the Pilgrims Blog. Or you can e-mail photos along the way to your webmaster, who will post them each day.
MAY THIS TIME OF PILGRIMAGE in our Year of Prayer and Renewal truly be a time of grace for our entire parish community. May it renew us, refresh us, and bring us full of faith, hope, and love, to the celebration of Easter!
