St. James Cathedral, Seattle, has an immediate opening for a bass-baritone singer to join the Cathedral Cantorei, the professional ensemble that supports the volunteer Cathedral Choir during regular Thursday rehearsals (7:30-9:30 pm) and Sunday morning Masses (9:00 am call for 10:00 am Mass) from September through June, with opportunities to sing throughout the summer. Cantorei also sings for extra liturgies, including Advent Readings and Carols, and an annual New Year’s Eve concert. Availability during Christmas and Easter weeks is essential.

The successful applicant will have a classically-trained flexible voice that is comfortable singing a wide range of choral repertoire (Renaissance through modern classical music), the ability to blend within an ensemble, good sightreading and music preparation skills, and a personable and professional attitude suitable to acting as a choral leader to volunteers.

All singers in Cantorei and Cathedral Choir are presently required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and wear a 3-layer mask during rehearsals and performances. Rehearsal and performance protocols follow the guidelines for Performing Arts found in the Washington State K-12 Schools Covid-19 Requirements 2021-2022 document at https://www.doh.wa.gov/Portals/1/Documents/1600/coronavirus/820-105-K12Schools2021-2022.pdf.

Base pay is $31/hour, with a minimum 2-1/2 hour call ($77.50). For more information and to apply for an audition, please contact Joseph Adam, Director of Music, at jadam@stjames-cathedral.org or 206-382-4597.
