All Souls Requiem – Fauré's Requiem Solemn Mass for the Feast of All Souls The Very Reverend Michael G. Ryan, presider Joseph Adam, conductor Cathedral Choir Clarice Alfonso, soprano David P. Hoffman, baritone with Cathedral Chamber Orchestra We commemorate the Feast of All Souls with a solemn Mass for the Dead featuring Gabriel Fauré's Requiem. Fauré said of his best-known work, "It has been said that my Requiem does not express the fear of death and someone has called it a lullaby of death. But it is thus that I see death: as a happy deliverance, an aspiration towards happiness above, rather than as a painful experience." He also said that the work "is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest." Experiencing Fauré's music with choir and orchestra within the context of a Mass at St. James Cathedral brings a spiritual aspect that is difficult to replicate in the concert hall. All are welcome; a freewill offering will be collected at the Offertory.
