AUDITIONS!
The
Cathedral Choir
and the
Women of St. James Schola
have openings in all voice parts for the 2025-26 season! Auditions are held by appointment. The choir season begins in mid-September and runs through early June. Singers for both ensembles must know how to read music. To schedule an audition, contact the Cathedral music office via email at
musicoffice@stjames-cathedral.org
or call 206-382-4874. Please let us know your voice part (soprano, alto, tenor, or bass) and what kind of choral singing experience you have. If you're a soprano or alto, include which choir you're interested in.
The Cathedral Choir of St. James sings music spanning more than a thousand years, from chant and Renaissance polyphony to the best of 20th- and 21st-century music for the Church. The choir is composed of 50+ adult singers with a wide background of musical training, supported by a core of the region's finest professional choral singers. In addition to singing at the 10:00 Mass each Sunday, the Cathedral Choir provides music for many major events in the life of the Cathedral, including Holy Week and Priest Ordinations. Singers must be able to keep up with a fast pace of repertoire— we sing more than 70 different motets during a typical church year. Rehearsals are Thursdays from 7:30-9:30pm (September-June).
The Women of St. James Schola is an ensemble dedicated to unison and part singing. This choir sings for the Sunday 5:30pm Mass each week. The choir's repertoire includes ancient chant, medieval and Renaissance works, and 2- and 3-part works from the classical and modern repertoire. Rehearsals are Sundays from 4:00-5:30pm (September-June).
