Soprano II Section Leader – Women of St. James Schola

St. James Cathedral, Seattle, has an immediate opening for a Soprano II section leader for the
Women of St. James Schola. Four section leaders
serve as a professional core supporting the volunteer singers of the 20-voice Women's Schola. Repertoire
consists of Gregorian & traditional chant settings, and unison and 2-3 part music spanning from
medieval to modern. There is no mid-week rehearsal for this ensemble – call time is generally 4:00pm
on Sundays to sing the 5:30pm Mass, from September through June, with opportunities to sing throughout
the summer. The Schola sings for some extra liturgies throughout the year, including Vespers on Easter
and Pentecost, and section leaders are sometimes offered opportunities to sing with the professional
Cathedral Cantorei for Holy Week, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and other occasions.
The successful applicant will have a flexible voice that is comfortable singing a wide range of choral
repertoire, the ability to blend within an ensemble while providing solid vocal leadership, excellent
sightreading skills, and a personable and professional attitude suitable to acting as a choral leader
to volunteers. Experience and expertise in medieval music performance would be a definite advantage.
Base pay is $35/hour, with a minimum 3-hour call ($105.00). For more information and to apply for an

Alto II Section Leader – St. James Cathedral Cantorei

St. James Cathedral, Seattle, has an immediate opening for an Alto II or Countertenor singer to
join the
Cathedral Cantorei, the professional
ensemble that supports the volunteer Cathedral Choir during regular Thursday rehearsals (7:30-9:30 pm)
and Sunday morning Masses (generally a 9:00 am call for 10:00 am Mass) from September through June,
with opportunities to sing throughout the summer. Cantorei also sings for extra liturgies, including
All Souls Requiem. Availability during Christmas and Holy Week/Easter is essential.
The successful applicant will have a flexible voice that is comfortable singing a wide range of choral
repertoire, the ability to blend within an ensemble while providing solid vocal leadership, excellent
sightreading skills, and a personable and professional attitude suitable to acting as a choral leader
to volunteers. Ideally, the applicant will have experience as a cantor in the Catholic Church, and be
amenable to taking on extra calls as a cantor for weddings, funerals, Vespers, and other liturgies,
but this is not a requirement.
Base pay is $39/hour, with a minimum 2-1/2 hour call ($97.50). For more information and to apply for an
