Mark Hilliard Wilson & Dieter Hennings Yeomans Leo Brouwer – Sonata de los viajeros J. S. Bach/S. L. Weiss, arr. M. H. Wilson – Sonata in A Major, BWV 1025 FREE concert after Taizé, in the Cathedral Chapel on the south side of the cathedral. Cathedral Guitarist Mark Hilliard Wilson joins together with Dieter Hennings Yeomans for what Wilson describes as
an epic set of music built around titans of the 18th and 20th century, Bach and Brouwer, and their interest in travel and culture. "Los Viajeros" is a suite of four movements that explore a serene and beautiful soundscape of imagined lands from the frozen north and white nights, with a nod to one of the most influential composers in the 20th century, J.S. Bach… there is a moment where Brouwer inserts the famous (infamous) D minor prelude that so many people play when they first pick up the guitar. The second half of the concert features one of the most spectacular collaborations in music, the greatest composer of the Baroque, arguably Johann Sebastian Bach and the greatest lutenist of the Baroque, Sylvius Leopold Weiss. Bach's BWV 1025 is an arrangement for harpsichord and violin (Bach’s favorite instrument) of Weiss's Sonata 24 from the Dresden Manuscript.
The concert run time is approximately one hour.
