The Cathedral Choir of St. James, founded in 1903 (before St. James was built) as the "pro-Cathedral choir" by E. P. Ederer, is one of the oldest organizations in Seattle's artistic life. The choir is composed of 50+ adult singers with a wide background of musical training, supported by a core of the region's finest professional choral singers. In addition to singing at the 10:00am Mass each Sunday (September–June), the choir provides music for many major Cathedral events, including Holy Week, All Souls Requiem, and Archdiocesan events such as Ordinations of Priests. Repertoire spans more than a thousand years, from chant and Renaissance polyphony to the best of 20th and 21st century music for the Church, a mix of a cappella works and those accompanied by the magnificent Cathedral organs. Auditions for volunteer singers with the Cathedral Choir are held throughout the year upon request. Joseph Adam, Director of Music.
