Day 8
We pray for the Spirit s gift of wonder and awe in God s presence.
With the gift of wonder and awe (also called fear of the Lord ) we
are aware of the glory and majesty of God. We recognize that God is the
perfection of all we desire: perfect knowledge, perfect goodness,
perfect power, and perfect love. This gift is described by St. Thomas
Aquinas as the fear of separating oneself from God. This gift helps us
recognize our place relative to God: we are the finite, dependent
creatures, and God is the infinite, all-powerful Creator.
Come to the Church, and fill us with wonder at the abiding presence
of God: come, Holy Spirit!
Come to this Archdiocese of Seattle as we await the appointment of a new
Archbishop, that he may be a model of wisdom, gentleness, and selfless
love, we pray:
come, Holy Spirit!
Come to all who do not believe in God, and lead them gently to awareness
of the holiness of life, we pray:
come, Holy Spirit!
Come upon all of us, and open our eyes to
God s presence in all we meet, we pray:
come, Holy Spirit!
Novena Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit!
Come to the Church in our time of need:
Heal, cleanse, and renew us.
Raise up for us prophetic leaders,
humble, compassionate shepherds,
with wisdom to read the signs of the times
in the light of the Gospel.
Come to our world,
and teach us to reverence the earth
and all of creation.
Come to our hearts,
and fill us with your gifts,
that we may live the faith we profess
and commit ourselves anew
to the Gospel of Christ.
Come, Holy Spirit,
with the wind and fire
of a new Pentecost.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful,
and kindle in them the fire of your love.
You send forth your Spirit, and they are created:
and you will renew the face of the earth.
