Sunday, December 20, 2020. We couldn't have our
traditional Readings and Carols Service, but our youth readers and
youth choristers and their families created a wonderful virtual
service to help us prepare our hearts for Christmas.

Sunday, November 22, 2020. Father Ryan baptized
four beautiful children.
Monday, November 2, 2020. We prayed in a special
way for the more than 230,000 who have died in the US from Covid-19
at this year's Solemn Mass of All Souls.
Sunday, November 1, 2020. On the eve of the
election, Seattle faith leaders from many traditions gathered in the
Cathedral for silent prayer, a sign of unity and solidarity.

Sunday, September 20, 2020. Father Ryan baptized
three beautiful children in the Cathedral on a quiet Sunday
afternoon.
Wednesday, September 16, 2020. Our adult candidates
for confirmation were confirmed in a simple Mass in the Cathedral.

Sunday, August 29, 2020. Our youth candidates for
confirmation received the sacrament in a beautiful celebration.
Sunday, August 23, 2020. We celebrated First Holy
Communion with five great kids.
Saturday, August 22, 2020. Five beautiful children
were baptized in the Cathedral.
Sunday, August 2, 2020. We celebrated the
long-delayed Sacraments of Initiation with nine wonderful people.
Sunday, July 26, 2020. On our patronal feast day,
we celebrated our long delayed First Holy Communions with eight
beautiful children.
Thursday, July 16, 2020. It was a privilege to
welcome the Most Reverend Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the
United States, to the Mass of Investiture with the Pallium.

Friday, June 19, 2020. This year, the Feast of the
Sacred Heart of Jesus coincided with our national observance of
Juneteenth. Deacon Joseph Connor of Immaculate Conception Parish,
Seattle, preached powerfully on our need as Catholics to eradicate
racism.
Sunday, June 14, 2020. On this Corpus Christi
Sunday, Archbishop Etienne announced a Year of the Eucharist for the
entire Archdiocese of Seattle--a time to reflect on, study, and
enter more fully into the mystery of the Eucharist.
Saturday, June 13, 2020. Our first public Mass in the
Cathedral in 100 days--fittingly, on the vigil of the Feast of
Corpus Christi.
Thursday, June 11, 2020. Archbishop Etienne celebrated the Chrism
Mass in the Cathedral iin the presence of the deans of the
Archdiocese of Seattle.
Saturday, June 6, 2020. Archbishop Etienne ordained
Thomas Tran to the Priesthood. The Mass was livestreamed because of
ongoing coronavirus restrictions, and was viewed by thousands.

Friday, June 5, 2020. A Moment of Prayer and
Lament. At Noon, dozens of religious leaders of various faiths
gathered on the Cathedral steps for prayer and for eight minutes,
forty-six seconds of silence in the wake of the murder of George
Floyd in Minneapolis on Memorial Day.

Sunday, May 31, 2020. Our first public Mass since
the suspension of public services on March 11 was celebrated in the
Cathedral Courtyard on May 31, the Feast of Pentecost.
Friday, May 1, 2020. In union with the bishops of
the U.S. and Canada, Archbishop Etienne offered a special prayer
entrusting our Archdiocese to the care of the Blessed Virgin Mary
during this time of pandemic. The prayer took place at Seattle's
historic Immaculate Conception Church, and its shrine of Our Lady of

Sunday, April 19, 2020. On Divine Mercy Sunday,
Archbishop Etienne offered a special Holy Hour in this time of
pandemic, concluding the service by processing to the Ceremonial
Bronze Doors to bless our city and our Archdiocese with the Blessed

The Sacred Paschal Triduum and Easter during the Coronavirus
Pandemic, April 8-12, 2020. In these unprecedented times,
the Triduum, the high point of the liturgical year, was celebrated
without the congregation present. In Washington state, churches were
permitted only eight persons in the building for the purpose of the

Sunday, April 5, 2020. Palm Sunday during the
coronavirus pandemic: Archbishop Etienne presides in the empty
Cathedral. Masses were livestreamed at 8:30am and 10:30am.
Friday, April 3, 2020. In lieu of our Ecumenical
Contemplative Prayer on first Fridays, guitarist Mark Hilliard
Wilson offered a musical prayer, livestreamed on Vimeo and
Facebook--the first of a weekly series of livestreamed musical
events.
Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Archbishop Etienne
celebrates Mass on the Feast of St. Patrick. On Tuesday, March 17, he
began livestreaming Mass each morning at 8:30am from the Cathedral
Chapel.
Sunday, March 22, 2020. On the Fourth Sunday of
Lent, Father Ryan was in self-quarantine after returning from his
Lenten retreat, and gave his homily from home! Other parishioners
did the readings and intercessions from their homes.

Sunday, March 15, 2020. Bishop Elizondo celebrated
Mass in Spanish at 11:30am, which was closed to the public and livestreamed throughout the
Archdiocese of Seattle.
Sunday, March 15, 2020. For the first time in our
Cathedral history, Sunday Mass was celebrated by livestream, with
the Cathedral Chapel closed to the public.
Wednesday, March 11, 2020. Archbishop Etienne made
the difficult decision to suspend all public Masses in the
Archdiocese of Seattle in order to stem the spread of the
coronavirus. In his message announcing this historic and
heartbreaking decision, he said: "I want to acknowledge the best
science that is out there that basically says that despite our best
efforts, this epidemic is going to continue to spread... so I am
going to ask that all our parishes in Western Washington, in the
Archdiocese of Seattle, effective today, suspend the celebration
publicly of the Eucharist."
Thursday, February 27, 2020. Bishop Elizondo
presided at the Rite of Election, where our Catechumens were
formally called to the Easter sacraments. From now on, they will be
the Elect. Click here

the beginning of the holy season of Lent.
Sunday, February 16, 2020. Two wonderful people
were received into the Full Communion of the Catholic Church.

It was a privilege to celebrate the Funeral Rites for Archbishop
Emeritus Alexander J. Brunett at St. James Cathedral.
