Sunday, November 13, 2016. We marked the end of the Year of Mercy as we solemnly closed the Jubilee Doors of Mercy. Father Ryan invited all to process through the doors at the conclusion of each Mass. "It will be a strong, symbolic way of saying that we are going to take out there – to our homes, our neighborhoods, our workplaces, to the world in which we live – we are going to take out there the message our world needs more than ever to hear: the message we receive in this place week after week from a loving God, the message of mercy – God’s mercy for us and the mercy we are to give to others." Friday, November 11, 2016.  Tonight's 5:30pm Mass was offered in memory of the men and women who died homeless on the streets and in the shelters of Seattle in the past year. After Mass, all gathered in the Cathedral Courtyard as the bell was tolled eighty-nine times in memory of the dead.


Wednesday, November 2, 2016.  On the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed, we celebrated a Solemn Requiem Mass with the Cathedral Choir and Chamber Orchestra performing the transcendent Requiem of Gabriel Faure, under the direction of Dr. Paul Thornock.


Sunday, October 30, 2016.  We celebrated the Sacrament of Baptism with five beautiful children and their families.


Sunday, October 2, 2016.  Our First Sunday Youth Celebration took place at the Noon Mass. It was a treat to have the Schola Cantorum back to lead us in song!


Saturday, October 1, 2016.  We welcomed Father Joseph Corpora, CSC, to preach a "Mission of Mercy" at St. James Cathedral. Father Corpora received a mandate from Pope Francis to be a Missionary of Mercy, and was commissioned to be a special confessor and a “living sign” of God’s forgiveness during the Holy Year of Mercy. The morning concluded with a solemn Rosary for Vocations led by Bishop Elizondo.


Sunday, September 25, 2016.  We celebrated the Rite of Reception at the 10 o'clock Mass.


Sunday, September 18, 2016.  Father Ryan gave a special blessing to the catechists who will be teaching our young people the ways of faith in the coming months.


Sunday, September 18, 2016.  We celebrated the baptism of eight beautiful infants at the 10:00am Mass.


Sunday, September 11, 2016.  The Cathedral Choir returned in all its glory after its summer hiatus.


August 8-12, 2016.  Our Schola Cantorum Choir Camp gathered fifty kids at the Cathedral for a week of prayer, singing, and service. Click here to visit the Choir Camp page.

Ordinations to the Priesthood
Saturday, June 25, 2016.  Archbishop Sartain ordained five young men to the priesthood in the presence of more than 100 priests and 1,300 of the faithful. Click here for the album.

Saturday, June 11, 2016.  On a rainy Saturday afternoon, faculty of Seattle University line up on the steps as the Seattle University Baccalaureate begins.


Saturday, June 4, 2016.  At the 5:30pm Mass, Archbishop Sartain blessed over a hundred pilgrims who will travel to Krakow in Poland later this summer.

Sunday, May 15, 2016.  Pentecost. At the beginning of the Noon Mass, children join in the entrance procession holding flames, symbols of Pentecost.


Sunday, May 15, 2016.  Huge banners are hung in the Cathedral in preparation for Pentecost.


Friday, May 6, 2016.  On the First Friday of each month, we gather for a contemplative, ecumenical evening prayer with music from Taize, France.


Thursday, May 5, 2016.  We celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation with Archbishop Sartain and a wonderful group of young people and adults who have been preparing for this sacrament. Click here for the album.



Thursday, May 5, 2016.  Archbishop Sartain presided at Mass with the O'Dea High School community on the feast of Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice.

Sunday, March 6, 2016. At the conclusion of the Noon Mass, Father Ryan, Archbishop Sartain, and cathedral children pray the Way of Mercy in the Cathedral. The Way of Mercy is a journey of prayer through the Cathedral which many thousands of pilgrims are making during this Year of Mercy.


Saturday, March 5, 2016. In union with the Church throughout the world, we observed a Day of Mercy, with priest confessors in the Cathedral from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Hundreds came to celebrate the Sacrament of God's Mercy in this Year of Mercy.


Thursday, February 11, 2016.  At the Rite of Election, those preparing for baptism, confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil sign their names in the Book of the Elect.


Sunday, January 17, 2016.  We celebrated Santo Nino--the Holy Child Jesus at the Noon Mass. Many brought their own beloved images of the child Jesus from home for the blessing.


Sunday, January 10, 2016. We marked the Solemnity of the Baptism of the Lord with the baptism of three beautiful children at the Noon Mass.


Sunday, January 3, 2016. The Epiphany of the Lord brought the Kings to the Christmas Crib. They left a gift of candy for the children at the Noon Mass!
