Monday, December 22, 2008. We were happy to welcome back
our own parishioner Todd Strange, recently ordained a deacon and due to be
ordained a priest this coming June. Todd served as Deacon at the Solemnity
of the Dedication of the Cathedral. The cathedral is 101 years old today!

Thursday, November 27, 2008. Thanksgiving Day. We
celebrated this great national holiday with a beautiful morning Mass. At
offertory time, all were invited to come forward to the altar with their gifts
of non-perishable food items for the poor.
Sunday, November 23, 2008. We celebrated the end of the
liturgical year and the great feast of Christ the King.
Sunday, November 9, 2008. This year, our annual
"Sacrificial Giving" Sunday coincided with the celebration of the Dedication of

Monday, November 3, 2008. On the Feast of St. Martin de
Porres, we gathered for the third annual Mass in remembrance of the homeless men
and women who have died on the streets of King County in the past year. At
the conclusion of the Mass, we gathered in the courtyard as the a bell tolled
eighty-nine times in memory of those who died.
Sunday, November 2, 2008. On this All Souls Day, the
young people of the parish joined in the entrance procession at the Noon Mass,
and put names and pictures of deceased loved ones at the place of prayer over
the crypt.
Saturday, November 1, 2008. We celebrated the Solemnity
of All Souls with the glorious music of Mozart. Click

On Sunday, October 26, we welcomed Father Ron Rolheiser, OMI,
who gave a talk on Spirituality and Aging, sponsored by Catholic Community
Services.
On Saturday, October 11, we celebrated a Mass in honor of the
175th Anniversary of the founding of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

parents, and catechists gather around Father Brant for a special blessing.
Thursday, October 2, 2008. In the evening, Sister Helen
Prejean, CSJ gave the 2nd Annual St. James Cathedral Lecture: Dead Man
Walking, the Journey Continues. More than 300 gathered in Cathedral
Hall for her presentation, which was riveting and very powerful. It was a
great privilege to welcome this modern-day prophet to St. James Cathedral.
Thursday, October 2, 2008. On the Feast of the Guardian
Angels, the children of our Youth Music Program provided angelic music!
Archbishop Brunett celebrated the 5:30pm Mass, when we were privileged to
welcome members of the Legatus Society from across the United States.
Sunday, September 28, 2008. At the Sunday evening Mass,
we celebrated the Rite of Reception into the Full Communion of the Catholic
Church with two wonderful people.
Saturday, September 27, 2008. On this Memorial of St.
Vincent de Paul, the liturgical ministers of the Cathedral gathered for "Liturgy
Day," a chance to get renewed in their ministries and celebrate the Eucharist
together.

the Cross.
Thursday, September 4, 2008. The Cathedral Choir of St.
James returned from their summer hiatus and gathered in the Cathedral Chapel for
prayer before heading to rehearsal.
Wednesday, September 3, 2008. Father Ryan celebrated a
Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit with the student body and faculty of O'Dea High
School as they began a new school year.
Monday, August 11, 2008. Father Ryan celebrates morning
praise with nearly 80 campers on the first day of Choir Camp. Click

Sunday, August 10, 2008. We were privileged to welcome
Archbishop Harry Flynn, retired Archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis, to
preside and preach at the Noon Mass.
Sunday, August 3, 2008. Father Ryan was invited to preach
this morning at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral on Capitol Hill. Here he is
thanked by Rev. Ralph Carskadden, the priest-in-charge at St. Mark's.

Saturday, May 3, 2008. 30 young people and adults
received the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Joe
Tyson.

Monday, April 28, 2008. Archbishop Brunett blessed the
worksite of Frederic Ozanam House, a new residence for homeless men currently
under construction at Ninth and Columbia. Here, he holds up an icon of
Frederic Ozanam, founder of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Sunday, April 27, 2008. At each of the Masses, we learned
about the Annual Catholic Appeal. After Father Ryan's talk on the Appeal,
a Cathedral youth attending one of the Rainbow Schools spoke about their school.
Friday, April 25, 2008. The Student Recognition Ceremony
took place this afternoon. Hundreds of 7th graders and their proud parents
and grandparents gathered in the cathedral for this annual ceremony honoring
academic excellence as well as outstanding leadership in faith, co-curricular
activities, and more.
Sunday, April 20, 2008. We welcomed eleven young people
into the Full Communion of the Catholic Church. They made a profession of
faith, were confirmed, and received holy Communion for the the first time.
Sunday, April 13, 2008. We were privileged to welcome the
extraordinary Choir of the Cathedral of the Madeleine from Salt Lake City.
They sang at the Noon Mass and also presented a sacred music concert in the
Cathedral in the evening.
Sunday, April 6, 2008. At today's First Sunday Youth
Celebration, Father Ryan invited the children present to lead the assembly in
renewing the promises of their baptism.

Saturday, March 8, 2008. Each Lent Holy
Family Parish in White Center makes a pilgrimage to the
Cathedral--on foot! They left Holy Family about 7:00am and
arrived at the Cathedral at Noon. This year the group was more
than 200 strong!
Sunday, March 2, 2008. At the Noon Mass, we
celebrated a special rite of anointing with the oil of catechumens
for the five young people preparing for baptism at the Easter Vigil.
Sunday, March 2, 2008. We celebrated the
Second Scrutiny with our Elect at the 10:00am Mass.
Monday, February 25, 2008. Father Ryan
blessed a group of parishioners who will be heading next week to
Biloxi, Mississippi, to help in the continued effort to rebuild in
the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

the First Scrutiny with our Elect at the 5:30pm Vigil Mass.
Thursday, February 7, 2008. The Rite of Election
gathers people from across the Archdiocese--those preparing for baptism and for
full communion with the Catholic Church and their sponsors. The catechumens
chosen for the Easter sacraments sign their names in the Book of the Elect.
From now until Easter they will be called "the Elect."
Ash Wednesday, February 6, 2008. We began the
holy season of Lent with the blessing and imposition of ashes.
Saturday and Sunday, February 2 and 3, 2008.
Deacon David Olsen preached for the first time at St. James at all Masses this

Sunday, February 3, 2008. Our First Sunday
Youth Celebration at the Noon Mass began at the font as the children
of the parish lit tapers in honor of yesterday's feast.
Saturday, February 2, 2008. We celebrated the
Presentation of the Lord Jesus in the Temple, with the traditional
blessing of candles at the beginning of Mass. The Mass marked
the conclusion of "Liturgy Day," an annual gathering of E.M.s,
Ushers, Emmaus Companions, and Readers.
Sunday, January 27, 2008. At the 10:00am
Mass, we celebrated the Rite of Reception into Full Communion with
fifteen wonderful people.
Sunday, January 20, 2008. We celebrate Santo
Nino-Holy Child with a special blessing at the Noon Mass and a
fiesta.
