Thursday, December 21, 2006.  We celebrated the vigil of the Solemnity of the Dedication of the Cathedral.  St. James Cathedral was dedicated by Bishop Edward J. O'Dea on December 22, 1907, and rededicated by Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy on the same day in 1994.


Sunday, December 17, 2006.  We were privileged to welcome Archbishop Brunett, Bishop Elizondo, and Bishop Tyson along with the seminarians of the Archdiocese of Seattle to Vespers and Benediction.


Sunday, December 17, 2006.  Today Father Ryan celebrated the 40th anniversary of his ordination.


Friday, December 15, 2006.  Archbishop Alex J. Brunett celebrated the 9th anniversary of his installation as Archbishop of Seattle.

Saturday, December 2, 2006. 
Archbishop Brunett ordained cathedral parishioner Gary Lazzeroni to the Transitional Diaconate at the 5:30pm Vigil of the First Sunday of Advent.  Gary is to be ordained a priest this summer.

Monday, November 27, 2006. 
Nine parishioners were commissioned as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, to distribute communion at Mass and to take communion to the sick and homebound.


Sunday, November 26, 2006.  Christ the King. 
We marked the conclusion of our Year of Prayer and Renewal by renewing our baptismal promises at all the Masses.

.  At the Mass of Thanksgiving Day, gifts of non-perishable food items for the poor are brought forward at the offertory and blessed along with the gifts of bread and wine.


Sunday, November 5, 2006. 
At the First Sunday Youth Celebration, children carried images of their favorite saints in procession.  We are all called to be saints!  Click here to see more photos.


Thursday, November 2, 2006.  All Souls.
  The solemn Mass of All Souls with Mozart's Requiem once again drew standing-room only crowds. 


Saturday, October 21.
  Bishop Joseph Tyson presided at a special Mass on the Occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution.  Bishop Szab� S�ndor of the Hungarian Reformed Church spoke at the conclusion of the liturgy:  "We have to learn to love two countries with one heart and to praise one God with two languages.  God bless America.  God bless Hungary.  Amen."

Monday, October 3, 2006.  On the Feast of the Guardian Angels, Father Ryan offered a special blessing to a group of volunteers who will spend a week in Biloxi helping to rebuild after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.


Sunday, October 1, 2006.  As the new year of Children's Faith Formation classes got underway, there was a special blessing of children, parents, and catechists.

July 16, 2006.  We celebrated the Sacrament of Baptism with thirteen beautiful infants at the 10:00am Mass.


June 21, 2006.  Priest Days.  This week the priests of the Archdiocese were gathered at Ocean Shores for their annual retreat with Archbishop Brunett.  In their absence, we gathered each morning and evening to pray the Liturgy of the Hours.

Thursday, May 25, 2006.  Holy Names Baccalaureate... "Entering as many, leaving as one body and one spirit."  The Holy Names Academy Baccalaureate has been celebrated at St. James Cathedral for well over fifty years.

Saturday, May 20, 2006.  We celebrate the Rite of Reception into Full Communion as people baptized in other Christian churches are received into the Catholic Church.


First Eucharist, May 7, 2006.  Twenty children made their first communion at the Noon Mass.  Click here to view the album.


Student Recognition Ceremony.  The Cathedral is packed with 7th graders, their parents, and teachers, for an annual ceremony honoring students who excel in faith, leadership, academics, and co-curricular activities.

Saturday, April 22, 2006.  Sisters of Providence 150th Anniversary Mass.  The Sisters of Providence celebrate 150 years of ministry in the Pacific Northwest.  View more pictures of the celebration here.


Easter Octave 2006.  The daily Masses of the Easter Octave are celebrated with special solemnity.  Here, the cantor sings the beautiful Easter sequence:  "Have mercy, victor king, ever reigning, Amen, Alleluia!"

Thursday, April 6, 2006.  Chrism Mass.  Archbishop Brunett presides at this celebration of the Archdiocesan community which includes a recommitment to service in the name of Christ and blessing of the oils to be used in sacramental celebrations throughout the coming year.

Sunday, March 19, 2006.  The First Scrutiny of the Elect was celebrated at the 10:00am Mass.  These powerful prayers help prepare the Elect for the Easter sacraments.


Saturday, March 18.  Bishop Joseph Tyson offers Mass for the deaf community of the Archdiocese of Seattle.


Saturday, March 18.  Father Bloom, with fifty pilgrims from Holy Family in Seattle, celebrates Mass in the Chapel.  This parish makes an annual trek to the Cathedral from White Center (on foot!) as part of their Lenten observance.


Sunday, March 12, 2006.  At the conclusion of the 10:00am Mass, the entire parish joins with Father Ward in a special blessing of the Cathedral Choir, Women of St. James Schola, and parish pilgrims departing Tuesday for a pilgrimage through Padua, Venice, Florence, Assisi, and Rome.  Click here to visit the Pilgrimage Page.
