A Five-Week Series of Learning and Discussion,
exploring the main teachings of the Second Vatican Council
The Second Vatican Council opened on October 11,
1962. Throughout this anniversary year, special events and
educational opportunities will help us mark the 50th anniversary of a
watershed moment in our Church and our world. This is a time to
give thanks for the gifts of the Spirit in our Church, to be renewed in
our understanding of the Council, and to look to the future.
“Illuminated by the light of this Council, we confidently trust the
Church will become greater in riches. Gaining strength and new
energies from the Council, she will look to the future without fear”
(Blessed John XXIII).
This Lent of 2012, you’re invited to an in-depth study of the great teachings of
the Council. This series will combine large group learning and
small group reflection. What better way to observe Lent of 2012
than by rediscovering what it means to be the Church and to live out its
mission? Our companion book for this series is Keys to the Council:
Unlocking the Teaching of Vatican II by Richard Gaillardetz and
Catherine Clifford, available at a discount in the Cathedral Bookstore.
Presenters include Cathedral staff members Corinna Laughlin, TerryAnn
Bowen, Patty Bowman, and Suzanne Lee.
