CATHEDRAL HOME

St. James Cathedral was built in 1907 by Bishop Edward J. O'Dea.  At that time, it was the tallest building on the Seattle skyline, and sailors coming into the port could see the cross at the top of the Cathedral from a long way off!  Now Seattle is a huge city, with skyscrapers and the Space Needle dominating the skyline.  But St. James is still here, providing a beautiful place to pray and be close to God.

The Cathedral is built in Italian Renaissance style.  It is named after St. James, who was one of the twelve apostles, the brother of the apostle John.  St. James is the figure in the niche at the top of the Cathedral, just under the cross.  Below is a window of Jesus with the words "I am the vine, you are the branches."

In this virtual tour, you'll learn more about St. James Cathedral.
