CATHEDRAL HOME

St. James Cathedral Parish is a contributing member of the Rainbow Schools Coalition, a program whereby several parishes without schools contribute to the support of the four Catholic Elementary Schools in the central area of the city. Our participation not only makes it possible for Catholic education to continue in this area, it also allows children from our parish to attend one of the schools at parishioner tuition rates. The Cathedral parish contributes some $350,000 annually to the Rainbow Schools.

The Cathedral Scholarship Fund

St. James Cathedral Parish has established a scholarship fund to assist families in meeting the financial obligation involved in sending their elementary school age children to any one of the Rainbow Schools.

Scholarships are awarded annually to parish families who demonstrate financial need and meet the following requirements:

  • They are registered at St. James Cathedral parish
  • They have a Sacrificial Giving pledge card on file, whether they are able to make a monetary pledge or not
  • They are active in the parish as demonstrated by their investment of time, talent, and treasure in the parish

Applications should be submitted in March. Payments are made directly to the participating school.

One recipient of a Cathedral scholarship wrote: "Throughout my life, my parents have stressed the importance of a good Catholic education. Despite the financial difficulties and the sacrifices they had to make, they have sent my five siblings and me to a Catholic school. I am very thankful to St. James and the benefactors of the Scholarship Program for their generosity and support of Catholic education."

For information, contact Patty Pruitt, 206-274-3108.
