In Your Midst
You Never Get A Second Chance To Make A First Impression
October 98

Upon entering the Cathedral for the first time my breath took a holiday. The absolute beauty, breathtaking detail, the holiness, the sanctity, the peace, the abiding openness, the warmth and unexpected quiet took their places in the front pew of my mind.

I felf the shared history of the Cathedral: the struggle for survival, the hopes of the newlyweds, the visions of baptismal parents and the sorrows of mourners celebrating departed souls. I absorbed a myriad of impressions, all in the space of two or three minutes. Remarkable!

The warmth of the Cathedral and its inviting appearance is mirrored perfectly in the faces and good wishes of all the parishioners and staff I have met. St. James Parish presents a wonderful "first impression.". I wanted to share that with you. There wil never be another opportunity to be the recipient of your unrehearsed gifts, as one of the newest "in your midst."

Rick Oldenburg is the new Director of Development for St. James Cathedral
