COMMUNION FOR THE HOMEBOUND:
A P
HOTO ESSAY

Summer 2002

Kay treasures this photo taken on the front steps of the Cathedral the day she was commissioned as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Pictured with her are Sister Claudette Conrad, Father William E. Gallagher, and parishioner Jeanne Murray.

Each Sunday afternoon, Regina Glenn visits Kay Layton. Kay, a longtime Cathedral parishioner who for many years served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, is now confined to her First Hill apartment.

Their visit begins with the preparation of the grocery list.

Today the list includes one medium red potato and two greenish bananas. At QFC, Regina selects two, asking “are these greenish enough?”

Back at the apartment, Kay and Regina pray together. By reading the Sunday bulletin, listening to the Mass on tape, and above all, receiving the Eucharist, Kay is able to remain a part of the Cathedral community she loves.
