Becoming a Catholic: The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is a process of initiation into the Catholic Community of Faith. This is for persons who are seeking Baptism in the Catholic Church or full communion with the Catholic tradition through the Profession of Faith and the reception of Eucharist and Confirmation. It is an introduction to, or deepening of, a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ and in the Holy Spirit, facilitated by the study of the Gospels, Catholic teaching, Christian values, and the development of a life of prayer and action with the support and involvement of the parish community. If you are interested in exploring this further, please contact John Marquez, OCIA Director.

On these pages, you're invited to:

Would You Consider Being A Sponsor?

We continue to have many new inquirers coming to participate in our Christian Initiation process to learn more about the Catholic Church. We cannot bring these people into the Church without sponsors, and so we need St. James parishioners to be companions with our new inquirers to help welcome them to our community. All training and support will be provided and the time commitment is reasonable. The rewards are many, including renewal and update of your faith and kudos in heaven. If interested or for more information, please contact John Marquez, OCIA Director.
