Wednesday, April 8. We pray the traditional Office of Tenebrae. At the conclusion of the service, Father Ryan leads the litany which Pope Francis prayed at the extraordinary Urbi et Orbi on March 27. On Holy Thursday, the Church recalls the Institution of the Eucharist, the living presence of Christ in our midst in the sacrament of his Body and Blood. The surreal emptiness of the Cathedral during the Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper. "Where true love and charity are found, God is there." Archbishop Etienne preaches on Holy Thursday. Archbishop and Father Ryan pray before the Blessed Sacrament following the Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper. Father Ryan prays before Morning Prayer on Good Friday. The stark beginning of the Good Friday liturgy: the Archbishop and Father Ryan prostrate themselves before the altar. The proclamation of the Word of God... ...and the chanting of the Passion according to Saint John. The beginning of the Easter Vigil in the Holy Night, celebrated in an empty Cathedral... ...but illuminated by the light of Christ. Father Ryan chants the Exsultet The pews were empty, but thousands were present and praying through the livestream on Facebook and Vimeo. Christ is risen, he is risen indeed.
