On
Tuesday, February 11, 2020, Archbishop Emeritus Alexander J. Brunett lay
in state in the Cathedral. Archbishop Etienne led a simple prayer in the
Cathedral as the viewing began.
In the
evening, our retired Archbishop Sartain presided at the Vigil Service
while Bishop Emeritus Bill Skylstad of Spokane preached. You can listen
to his reflection above.
After
the Vigil service the viewing continued until 9:00pm.
In the
morning, an honor guard kept watch over the casket while hundreds
gathered for the Funeral Mass.
The west
aisle was lined with dozens of students of many different Catholic
Schools. Archbishop Brunett was passionate about Catholic education.
Priests and bishops stream into the Cathedral for the entrance
procession.
Dozens
of priests formed an honor guard as the casket was brought to the
hearse.
Priests
ordained by Archbishop Brunett served as pallbearers.
Archbishop Brunett elected to be buried at the mausoleum at Holyrood
Cemetery. He was laid to rest there later in the afternoon. Rest in
peace, Archbishop Brunett!
