It rained early this morning, but stopped in time for our annual
procession with the Blessed Sacrament on the Solemnity of the Most Holy
Body and Blood of Christ - Corpus Christi. With music, flowers, and
procession, we honor Christ, present in our midst in the Eucharist.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion walk at the head of the
procession.
The young people of Jubilate! Young Women's Ensemble and the St.
Edward's Vocal Ensemble
"Become what you are; be what you receive," wrote St. Ambrose.
First Communicants read the intercessions and scattered petals along the
way.
The Schola Cantorum brings both music AND color to the procession.
In this procession, the Blessed Sacrament is carried out of the church
and into the streets of our city.
Father Ryan carries the host, exposed in a monstrance. Ushers hold a
canopy over the Blessed Sacrament. This canopy has been used in Corpus
Christi processions at the Cathedral for more than 100 years!
Each year, the Elliott Bay Pipe Band, led by our own Tyrone Heade,
brings the joyful sound of bagpipes to the procession.
The procession concludes with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament from
the steps of Cathedral Place.

are the Body of Christ!
