On Sunday, July 23, we celebrate the Feast of St. James. St. James
the Greater, brother of John and Apostle of Christ, is the patron of our
parish and of the entire Archdiocese of Seattle.
Each year the Cathedral's largest image of a saint makes an appearance
after Mass! The puppet of St. James is based on medieval images used in
processions in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, where the relics of St.
James are venerated.
A high-five for St. James!
The reliquary bust of St. James is thought to date from the 15th
century. It was made to house a relic of the Apostle, and each year on
the Feast of St. James, the Cathedral's relic of James is placed in the
bust so that people can venerate it following Mass.
The flowers this year were offered in memory of Janet Ryan Pasha, Father
Ryan's sister, who died last Sunday after a long battle with cancer.
The parish picnic on Terry Avenue follows the 10:00am and Noon Masses.
There's always face-painting...
...and a chance to connect with friends!
Cathedral ushers make the best hamburgers.
Dessert--ice-cream sandwiches and popsicles!
Pedro Reyes kept the bingo table going.
There were plenty of winners!
The young people who participated in Art Camp last week shared their
creations....
...which were quite wonderful!
The pinata is a picnic tradition.
After the Noon Mass, the Fire Department brought a ladder truck.
A huge thank you to Anna Horton, Curtis Leighton, and Stephen Pace, who
coordinated the picnic this year.
Happy Feast Day!
