At the annual Chrism Mass, the Archbishop blesses and consecrates the oils to be used in sacramental celebrations this Easter and throughout the coming year.  The Chrism Mass also recalls the institution of the priesthood, as the priests of the Archdiocese of Seattle renew their commitment to priestly service.

The children of the Youth Music Program provided the music for this year's Chrism Mass.

'Are you resolved to be more united with the Lord Jesus?"  "I am."
"Are you resolved to be faithful stewards of the mysteries of God?"  "I am."

Father Gary Zender, Vicar for Clergy, introduces the rite for the blessing of the oils.

Lay minister Page Lane carries the Oil of the Sick.

Zoltan Abraham presents the Oil of Catechumens.

Two newly-ordained priests, Father Brian Thompson (left) and Father Dean Mbuzi (right) carry the oil for the Sacred Chrism and the sweet-smelling balsam essence which is added to it.

"May the splendor of holiness shine from every person and thing signed with this oil."

Archbishop adds the balsam essence to the Sacred Chrism.

Archbishop breathes over the Sacred Chrism, a ritual gesture recalling the Spirit of God, hovering over the waters at the dawn of creation.
