Each year, the celebration of Madre de las Americas brings a unique blend of
color, rhythm,
and faith to 9th Avenue and to St. James Cathedral! This year marked the 20th
annual celebration!
Young and old come together to dance in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The costumes...
...the rhythms...
...the dances...
...all speak of the profound devotion of the Mexican people to Our Lady of
Guadalupe.
Images of Our Lady of Guadalupe are everywhere! On banners...
...and on headdresses...
...and on costumes!
Each of the group of dancers enters the Cathedral with dance and music.
This year, young women from the Hispanic community carried images of Our Lady
from all over the Americas.
"Mi alma glorifica el Senor; the Almighty has done great things for me!"
The extraordinary music at this year's celebration was directed by Rudy Lopez.
The celebration of the Eucharist is the highlight of the day-long celebration. Viva la Virgen de Guadalupe!
