May 11, 2014.  This year, Mothers Day was extra special for the mothers of the 36 children and young people of our parish who received Holy Communion for the first time at the Noon Mass.

Excitement and a few jitters before Mass begins!

The white dresses worn by the girls recall the white garments they received on the day of their baptism.

Getting ready for the entrance procession

The icon represents the Mystical Banquet--the Last Supper, when Jesus gave his Body and Blood to his disciples.  Today, these children take their places for the first time at that holy table.

The children light candles - a reminder of the candle that was lit on the day of their baptism.

"Behold, the Lamb of God.  Happy are those who are invited to the Supper of the Lamb!"

Every time we go to communion, we encounter our Risen Lord, Jesus Christ, who is truly present in the consecrated bread and wine.

Lots of people want pictures on this special day!

Congratulations, First Communicants!  May you always remember this special day,
and may you come back to the Lord's Table again and again to receive his Body and Blood--
food for the whole journey of life!
