Palm Sunday: The 10:00am Mass begins with the traditional procession of
palms.
Tyrone Heade, Cathedral Piper, welcomes us to O'Dea Gym.
Two of our Elect help hand out bulletins and songsheets in the gym. The
Elect are those chosen or "elected" for the Easter sacraments: they will
be baptized and confirmed and receive Holy Communion for the first time at the
Easter Vigil, less than one week from today.
Father Ryan welcomes those gathered at O'Dea, and encourages us all to
participate
actively in the procession, which is such a well-loved part of our Catholic
tradition.
The Cathedral Brass: "Christ Jesus, Victor! Christ Jesus, Ruler!
Christ Jesus, Lord and Redeemer!"
The Archbishop arrives at O'Dea. A special thanks to Principal Jim Walker
and to the O'Dea community for making the gym available to us for the procession
year after year!
Archbishop Sartain blesses the palms before the procession.
The men of the Cathedral Choir prepare the way, lining the procession route.
A young server carries the incense...
...while her sister carries the icon representing the Lord's entry into
Jerusalem.
"Hosanna in excelsis!"
Father Ryan and Archbishop Sartain greet people as they enter the Cathedral
in this joyful procession.
At the Noon Mass, the children of the Youth Music Program lead us in joyful
"Hosannas."
They sing the traditional antiphon for Palm Sunday: "The Hebrew children,
holding branches of palms in their hands, cried aloud to the Son of God."
The children of our Faith Formation programs lead the way in the entrance at the
Noon Mass.
The blessing of palms at the Sunday Evening Mass.
The cherry blossoms in front of the Cathedral bloomed just in time for Palm
Sunday!
