Readings and Carols is based on a traditional service going back centuries.  Readers proclaim passages from the Scriptures telling the story of the coming of Christ. The choirs and the assembly respond to each reading with song--choral pieces and traditional carols.

The Liturgy of the Word culminates with the proclamation of the prologue to John's Gospel--
"In the beginning was the Word."


The service concludes with candle lighting and the singing of "Silent Night."
