The Rite of the Ordination, celebrated by the Archbishop, is one of the most
important liturgies of the year for the local Church.

Archbishop Sartain greets Jose Alvarez, who has been preparing for this day for
many years.

Seminarians of the Archdiocese assist during the liturgy. Carolyn Lassek,
Director of Worship for the Archdiocese of Seattle (at right) coordinates all
the details for this complex liturgy. Carolyn will be retiring at the end
of the month after more than thirty years of service to the Archdiocese of
Seattle.

The oil of Chrism, with which the new priest's hands are anointed during the
Rite of Ordination, is given honor in the entrance procession.

The Archbishop welcomes those present, especially the family of the new priest.

Deacon Carbajal of Vancouver, Washington incenses the Book of the Gospels

Bishop Elizondo speaks for the whole community when Deacon Alvarez is called
forward:
"We testify that he has been found worthy."

Archbishop Sartain addresses his homily directly to Deacon Alvarez.
