On Sunday, May 16, 2010, we were privileged to celebrate with four Sisters of
the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary their golden jubilee of religious profession.
From left to right, Sister Kathleen Hearn, Sister Mary Garvin, Sister Janet
Ryan, and Sister Judy Ryan.
The consecrated life, which these sisters have faithfully lived for fifty years,
is rooted in their baptism, and so we begin the jubilee liturgy by being
reminded of our baptism.
Sister Janet Ryan proclaims the reading from Ephesians: "may the eyes of your
hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his
call."
Sister Judy Ryan offered the reflection on this solemn feast of the Ascension of
the Lord. Click
here to read Sister Judy's reflections.
Before renewing their vows, the sisters light candles, just as they did on the
day of their profession as religious.
Sister Joan Saalfield of the Provincial Leadership Team leads the jubilarians in
the renewal of their solemn vows. The entire assembly witnesses their
commitment.
Sister Mary Garvin, snjm
The sisters respond to Father Ryan's words of congratulation at the end of Mass.
The celebration continues at a festive reception in Cathedral Hall.
The sisters shared fun photos from their fifty years of ministry. (Sister
Kathleen Hearn hasn't changed a bit!)
The four jubilarians are joined by Father Pat O'Leary, SJ and Father Ryan.
