On Saturday, January 17, people from across the Archdiocese gathered for a
special Mass in Thanksgiving for the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A
beautiful piece of African kente cloth adorned the altar.
The festival choir was under the direction of James Connor.
Dancers from Immaculate Conception provide the prelude to the Mass, as James
Connor sings "Precious Lord."
The Knights of Peter Claver and the Ladies of Grace participated in the Mass.
People of many different backgrounds joined in the celebration, proclaiming the
intercessions and presenting the gifts.
Deacon Joseph Connor proclaimed the Gospel.
Archbishop Brunett presides at the Eucharist.
January 17 is Archbishop Brunett's birthday. At the end of the Mass, the
African American and African community of the Archdiocese presented him with a
beautiful stole in celebration of his 75th birthday.
A special thank you to the committee that planned this celebration
in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King.
