On Thursday, May 15, 2008 in Cathedral Hall, we had the opportunity to gather
with Core Members and Assistants from several local L'Arche communities.
L'Arche (French for 'the ark') is a worldwide network established by Jean
Vanier. In L'Arche, people with disabilities find a home, and assistants
both support them and learn from them. Above: Bill Herb shares his
experience as a Core Member. A talented artist, Bill created the drawing
of St. James Cathedral which will be featured in the program for June 22--Jean
Vanier's visit to St. James!
Jennifer Kelly invites David Bishop to share his impressions of L'Arche with the
group. For David, L'Arche is all about community.
We were joined by friends from L'Arche Tacoma.
Christina leads the whole group in singing "Happy Birthday." A tradition
at L'Arche Seattle!
The evening began and ended with prayer.
Chavo, the director of a L'Arche community in Mexico, brought gifts for the
local L'Arche communities.
On Sunday, June 22, at 7:30pm in the Cathedral, Jean Vanier, founder of
the L'Arche movement, will speak. Mark your calendar!
