In the annual Corpus Christi Procession, we bring the Blessed Sacrament out of
the Cathedral and on to the streets of the city.
Jubilate! Young Women's Ensemble accompanies the procession with song.
"Jesus here present, our living savior, grant us your mercy, show us your
favor!"
Youth ushers help guide the way. (A huge thank you to all the dedicated
Cathedral ushers who make this complicated procession seem easy!)
Children who made their first communion last Sunday scatter flower petals which
form a beautiful carpet for Jesus!
Women of the Cathedral Choir.
Along the route, the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion pray a litany in
honor of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
At the center of the procession, Father Ryan carries the Blessed Sacrament,
exposed in a monstrance. An antique canopy from the Cathedral's early days
gives honor to the Blessed Sacrament.
Tyrone Heade and the Elliott Bay Pipe Band are an important part of this annual
tradition.
The procession concludes with Benediction on the steps of Cathedral Place.
In spite of the dire forecasts, the weather couldn't have been more beautiful!
In his homily for today, Father Ryan quoted the great St. John Chrysostom:
"Do you wish to honor the body of Christ? Do not neglect it when you find
it naked. Do not do it homage here in the church with gold and incense and silk
fabrics, only to neglect it outside where it suffers cold and nakedness.”
