October 4-7, St. James Cathedral was privileged to welcome Brother
John of Taiz, who led us in some days
of prayer and renewal. On Wednesday, October 4, the feast of
St. Francis of Assisi, Brother John preached at the evening Mass.
After Mass, some 200 gathered in Cathedral Hall for a Simple Supper
provided by the Family Kitchen. Brother John talked about the
Taize community, the vision of Brother Roger, and the changes the
community had experienced since Brother Roger's death a year ago.
On Friday, October 6, Brother John joined our weekly ecumenical
prayer with music from Taiz. More
than four hundred gathered for this prayer for peace and
reconciliation.
On Saturday, October 7, young adults gathered with Brother John for
an afternoon retreat and bible sharing at Seattle University.
Thank you, Brother John! Thanks, too, to Brenda Bellamy,
Campus Ministry at Seattle University and Seattle Pacific
University, for their assistance in planning this event. For
