WELCOME, SUMMER VISITORS! St. James Cathedral is proud to welcome visitors from near and far throughout the summer months. Each week a drawing for a special Cathedral gift will be made from among all the visitor envelopes used. Please write your address on the visitor envelope provided in the pew and drop it with your offering into the collection basket. Thank you for adding to the power of our prayer by your presence in our midst today.

FLOWERS AT THE ALTAR are from the Archdiocese of Seattle in thanksgiving for the priestly ordination of Mark Kiszelewski.

CATHEDRAL ESPRESSO. Please come by after the 10:00am Mass. All proceeds for the month of June benefit the Solanus Casey Center. Information, Katherine Berry, 425-772-0897.

CREATION ART EXHIBIT. The extraordinary exhibit of artworks on the theme of Creation comes to an end on Friday, June 14. Stop by the Chapel today to explore this exhibit one last time.

YOUTH MIGRANT PROJECT. Attention High School Youth (Grades 9-12)! Are you interested in simple living and humble service? Do you desire to learn more about the justice issues associated with our local migrant workers? If so, God may be calling you to join us on this summer’s Youth Migrant Project in the Skagit Valley. July 28 – August 2. We will be sharing our week with St. Luke, Shoreline. We have up to 20 slots available. Friends are welcome! Information or to register, Joe Cotton.

THE NEXT SENIOR TRIP will be Wednesday June 12. We will visit the Bremerton Naval Museum and explore the ship-building history of the region. In addition to the many fascinating exhibits we’ll enjoy a scenic ferry ride and explore Bremerton. Please join us! Space is limited and priority will be given to registered parishioners. Information, or to reserve your place, John Simpson, Pastoral Care Minister, at 206-274-3173.

ST. JAMES FILM NIGHT is Tuesday, June 11. Our movie will be Guilt Trip with Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogan. As inventor Andy Brewster is about to embark on the road trip of a lifetime, a quick stop at his mom's house turns into an unexpected cross-country voyage with her along for the ride. According to USCCB movie guide, it is a touching and amusing story that offers a view of clan interaction that calls to mind St. Paul's inspired insight that the first, and perhaps primary, attribute of real love is patience (1 Cor. 13:4). The film rating is PG-13 – parents strongly cautioned. The film will be shown in Cathedral Place, 2nd floor at 7:00pm, and there will be time for some discussion following the film. Popcorn and lemonade will be provided and you are welcome to bring your favorite movie treats. Information, TerryAnn Bowen, 206-382-2018.

FREE CHORAL CONCERT FRIDAY JUNE 14, 2:00PM. St. James resident ensemble Seattle Pro Musica and guest choir Choral Arts presents a free, one-hour afternoon program of sacred music. Information, 206-781-2766 or www.seattlepromusica.org.

THE ST. JAMES KNITTERS GROUP will be meeting once a month for the summer, and all are welcome! The next meeting is Monday June 10 at 6:30pm in the Fireside Room, Pastoral Outreach Center. It will be a question and answer meeting, so bring your questions! There is a wonderful depth of knitting knowledge within the group that is growing with every week. We will also be handing out some basic hat and scarf patterns for those that would like suggestions for what to knit. Any stage of knitting (and crocheting) skills are welcome; come learn with us! Summer meetings are also scheduled for July 8 and August 12 at 6:30pm, so save the date! Information, Connie Carlson, 206-518-1623.

YOUNG ADULT SERVICE OPPORTUNITY. On Saturday June 15 from 3:00-5:00pm join St. James Young Adults (20-39) at Operation Nightwatch. We will be baking cookies and playing board and card games with the residents. Operation Nightwatch residents are lowincome seniors. Information or to RSVP, Caitlin Lanigan, 206-382-4235.

PRAYER WITH MUSIC FROM TAIZÉ. Each Friday at 6:30pm in the Cathedral, all are invited to join in an ecumenical service of readings, silence, candlelight, and the music of the ecumenical community of Taizé in France. This simple, reflective prayer is the perfect way to end a busy week.

REST IN PEACE. Please pray for the repose of the soul of Mary McLellan Williams and Betty Drummey.

PLASTIC CONTAINER DONATIONS. The Cathedral Kitchen is collecting plastic food storage containers for our daily meals program. Please bring clean used or new 16 oz. to 24 oz. sized plastic food storage containers with lids. Drop them off at the Cathedral Kitchen from 2-4p.m Monday- Friday or the parish office Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Information, Teddi Callahan, 206-264-2091.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED. The Cathedral Kitchen needs a few more “gleaners.” Gleaners go out in the morning, once a week, usually as partners, to four local supermarkets and collect food. These items may be used for our daily meals or passed on to St. Mary’s Food Bank. It’s a fun and rewarding outreach! Information, Teddi Callahan, 206-264-2091.

CAMINO SEATTLE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES. Camino Seattle begins again on June 23 and continues through the Feast of St. James, July 28. We need volunteers to help with sign ups after all Masses on June 15-16 and June 22-23. We’re also looking for volunteers to host walks (a great way to share your favorite walk, park, or neighborhood with your parish community) as well as to give out stamps to Camino participants at the Sunday coffee hours. Information, Maria Laughlin, 206-382-4284.

Annual CATHOLIC Appeal 2013

Good news: we have now met our Archdiocesan goal of $318,000 and at this point every dollar that comes in will come right back to the parish in the form of a rebate. And we need the rebate! This year, it will help support our new Youth Ministry and Family Ministry programs.

Annual Catholic Appeal 2013
Results through Sunday, June 2

Archdiocesan Goal $318,000
Rebate Goal $180,000
Combined Parish/Archdiocesan Goal $498,000
Total raised through 6/2 $423,936
% participation (2,618 households) 29%
Average gift $553
SHORTFALL—still need to raise $86,847

A huge thank you to the 767 households who have made their pledge. As you can see, we’re almost there. Please visit www.seattlearchdiocese.org/aca to make your pledge or gift today.

PARISH REMEMBRANCE: Throughout the year, because we are the Cathedral Church, we remember in prayer at Mass and Vespers each of the parishes and missions of the Archdiocese of Seattle on a Sunday near their feast day. This week we remember in prayer the parishes of Sacred Heart in Seattle, Bellevue, Morton, Battle Ground, and Enumclaw.
