Service Activities

YASFU! Young Adults: Special Forces Unit is a special, scrappy corps of Young Adults ready and dedicated to take on emergency tasks. Many times these service projects come up unexpectedly, with short notice, and can require some manual labor or ministry of presence. (For example, help someone move, perform some heavy-duty housework, or run errands for an elderly person in need.) We’re looking for a few good women and men! Sign up to be a YASFU! recruit, and we’ll call upon you to help out if you can. There’s no pressure the more people we have on hand, the better service we’re able to provide at the ready. If you’re hungry to help parish friends facing tough situations, then join us.

Warm Hearts and Soles
Imagine having only one pair of socks (or less) during a cold wet Seattle winter! That’s the reality for many of our friends who live on the street. Help us collect 2006 pairs of men’s socks for our third annual sock drive to benefit the homeless.
Sunday Coffee Hours
Dec. 4, 11, 18, January 8

Greening of the Cathedral
Join the Young Adults as we festoon our beloved Cathedral with red ribbons and evergreens. If there’s a more fun, festive way to get into the holiday spirit, we want to know about it! Perhaps you’ll help arrange the chapel’s nativity tableau. Or for the truly daring, help hang a mobile and experience the soaring view from the oculus. Top it all off with pizza and Sister Anne's famous hot apple cider.  This is holiday magic you don’t want to miss.  December 21, 6:00 p.m.

Chancery Place Valentines Party
Saturday, February 11
12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Young Adults, tap into your inner cupid. Help throw a Valentines Party for our Senior Pals at Chancery Place apartments. Goodies, laughter and smiles will be plentiful. Plus, when you share fun with our older friends, you put the saint back in Valentine’s Day!
Chancery Place Apartments
(910 Marion Street, just north of the Cathedral.)

Chancery Place Spring Cleaning
Get out the mops, brooms and vacuums: join the Young Adults as they don yellow gloves, and get busy spring-cleaning! Clean an oven, dust some blinds, move furniture, and make friends for a lifetime. Trust us, this is way more fun and rewarding -- than cleaning your own place. Join us for chore ministry at our Senior Friends’ apartments at Chancery Apartments. Plus, put your feet up and enjoy the recap at the pizza social after-party.  NOTE DATE CHANGE  Saturday, May 6, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Spirituality & Education

First Friday: January 6
Guest speaker and guide: our beloved Father Ryan! Join Father as he tells the tale of his journey of discernment and his eventual vocation. Afterward, Father Ryan will lead a tour of the Cathedral and teach us about some of its hidden treasures.

Spirituality on Tap: January 19
Speaker Tim Malone. Spirituality on Tap is way to connect with issues of faith and prayer in an invigorating and challenging way. These monthly gatherings bring together young adults from around the archdiocese, and include a talk/presentation/discussion, and an informal no-host social gathering at a nearby pub or restaurant afterward.

First Friday: February 3
"Faith and Politics: What is the connection between our faith lives and our lives as citizens?" How are we called to live out our faith in a pluralistic society? Patty Bowman, Pastoral Associate, will address these questions, and lead a discussion about how young adults can try to successfully live their faith every day, in the modern world.

First Friday: March 3
Triduum: Three Days. We will get ready for the most important days of the Church’s year by exploring the history and traditions of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday: the Sacred Triduum of the Lord. Corinna Laughlin, Director of Liturgy, will talk with young adults about the meaning of these holiest of days.

First Friday: April 7
Visual Journey through World Religions of Asia… Tim Malone, co-director of the Ignatian Sprirtuality Center, will share an array of images he has collected while reflecting on his encounters with world religions while living in Nepal, Thailand and Japan.

First Friday: May 5
