Suzanne Lee joined the
cathedral staff in September 2010.
Suzanne was born in El Paso, Texas, the fourth of ten children, all of
whom arrived at the doorstep of their bewildered parents within the span
of ten years. In the high desert of the Southwest, she enjoyed dry heat,
sunshine 365 days a year, and flaming sunsets over the majestic purple
Rockies.
In the early 70s, she attended the University of San Francisco, where
she fell under the influence of Msgr. John Tracy Ellis, the
distinguished Catholic Church historian, who famously challenged
American Catholics to a higher standard of intellectual life and to
more active participation in in the public square. After college she
worked in Washington, D.C. as a legislative aide to a member of Congress
before returning to California, where she earned a Masters in English
literature at UCLA.
Suzanne and her husband, Brian Lynch, moved to Seattle 1983. They have
four children, Barney, Siobhan, John and Maria.
While raising her family, Suzanne served in various Catholic ministries.
She was a case manager for the Pregnancy Support Program of Catholic
Community Services (CCS) of King County, and later directed CCS
advocacy efforts throughout Western Washington. At the Intercommunity
Peace and Justice Center, Suzanne edited the quarterly journal, A Matter
of Spirit. Most recently, she served as Pastoral Assistant for Outreach
at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Seattle.
To recharge her batteries, Suzanne loves to read dead authors, tend her
rose garden, cycle along the water, and hang out with her new grandchildren,
Tom, Lily, and Cecilia.
