Sandwiches for St. Martin de Porres

In addition to the Winter Shelter
program, St. James parishioners and volunteers support St.
Martin de Porres Shelter by making and serving sandwiches,
boiled eggs, and cookies for men age 50 and older on the second
and fourth Monday of each month. Volunteers make the food in
the comfort of their own homes once a month and then drop them
off at coffee hour in the big refrigerator in the Cathedral Hall
kitchen after the 8am, 10am, or noon Masses. Sandwiches can also
be dropped off on the second, fourth and fifth Monday of the month in
the Parish Office between 9am and 3pm. Click

The meal program began in response to a need of the Archdiocesan Housing Authority’s St. Martin de Porres shelter. St. Martin’s provides overnight shelter for 212 men and a warm meal for 275-300 men a day. They do not, however, have a large kitchen in which to prepare a meal so they rely on outside groups to provide the food each night of the year. Ours is one of many groups who work in collaboration to provide meals for the men 365 days a year. Click here to learn more about St. Martin de Porres Shelter.
