Operation Nightwatch
Operation Nightwatch is an interdenominational Christian ministry serving people
on the streets. St. James partners with Operation Nightwatch to provide
meals on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month and on the 2nd Sunday of the month.
Operation Nightwatch is an interdenominational Christian ministry serving the
poor and homeless. Dedicated to serving the poorest of the poor,
Operation Nightwatch provides emergency dispatch to shelters, hotel
vouchers for families, meals, blankets, and pastoral care for those
in need. Volunteers from St. James help at Operation Nightwatch three days per month.
On the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month, a group of volunteers prepares a meal (5pm-7pm),
and a second group serves the meal (8:30pm-10:30pm). On the 2nd Sunday of the month, a group of
volunteers serves a meal that another church prepares (8:30pm-10:30pm).
There are many volunteer jobs including food donation, donation
transport, sandwich making, cooking, serving the meal and sandwiches,
and cleaning up after the meal. For information or to volunteer for any of the roles,
contact Patrick Barredo
(pbarredo@stjames-cathedral.org, 206-382-4515).
Operation Nightwatch’s meals and sandwiches are provided for 170+ people
every night at 9pm in the Dispatch Center. Food is supplied by
Nightwatch supporters, volunteer groups, local churches, Food Lifeline,
Northwest Harvest, Dick’s Drive-In, Starbucks, and community groups
such as Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs. In need of help with shelter or meals? Call 211.
