Samaritan CareTeam volunteers offer practical
care, emotional support, and nonjudgmental listening to

Cathedral Kitchen
The Cathedral Kitchen serves a nourishing, hot meal five days a week to
those in need in our First Hill
and Downtown Seattle neighborhoods. The Cathedral Kitchen serves
anyone in need, regardless of age, gender, or creed.

Hunthausen Fund
Named for our visionary retired Archbishop Raymond G. Hunthausen,
the Hunthausen Fund first began awarding no interest loans and grants
to help house the working poor in October 2001. It’s a unique “hands-up”

Immigrant Assistance
The St. James Immigrant Assistance mission is to advance justice for refugees and immigrants
through education, advocacy, and by helping the most isolated refugees and immigrants to learn
English, become citizens and connect to community resources.

Mental Health and Wellness
Mental Health and Wellness Ministry serves anyone who experiences mental illness and any life occurrences
which disrupt mental and spiritual wellness. It also strives to support their loved ones and caregivers.

Operation Nightwatch (ONW)
ONW is an interdenominational Christian ministry serving people experiencing homelessness.
St. James partners with ONW to provide meals on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month and on the 2nd Sunday of

Pregnancy Support
The Pregnancy Support Ministry at St. James Cathedral works in connection with Catholic Community Services to provide
caring services to expectant mothers, fathers, and family members.

Sandwich Ministry
Sandwich Ministers prepare sandwiches on the 2nd or 4th Monday of the month for St. Martin de Porres Shelter.
Sandwiches may be dropped off at Coffee Hour on the preceding Sunday.

Solanus Casey Center
The Solanus Casey Center provides information, referrals, and ministry of presence to people experiencing homelessness or
persons recently released from prison. It is located at 1008 James St, and it is open Monday through Thursday, 1pm-4pm.

St. Vincent de Paul Society
The St. Vincent de Paul Society offers referrals, spiritual support, and financial assistance to
low-income neighbors through home visits. Meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of
the month, 6:30pm-8pm, and Vincentians go in pairs on home visits 1-3 times per month.

Volunteer Chore Services
Volunteer Chore Services assists low-income elders with household chores on an ongoing basis to
promote independent living and form meaningful relationships.

Youth Tutor Program
Volunteers are needed to tutor first through twelth grade students at six different sites around Seattle.
Volunteers are needed year-round and make a commitment of one hour per week for at least six months.

Winter Shelter
The Winter Shelter Ministry provides safe and warm shelter in Cathedral Hall for older men
experiencing homelessness, October-April. Overnight hosts and breakfast hosts provide hospitality
and a ministry of presence.
