 Each year, the Archbishop gathers with Filipino leadership from throughout the Archdiocese for the Simbang Gabi commissioning Mass. Simbang Gabi is a traditional novena of Masses in preparation for Christmas.  The parol, or lantern, is traditionally associated with the Simbang Gabi novena. It suggests the watchful expectation of Advent; the star shape recalls the star that led the Magi to Jesus.   Those who will coordinate the Simbang Gabi novena in parishes throughout the Archdiocese come forward for a special blessing.   The focal point of the Simbang Gabi novena is the daily celebration of the Eucharist. |
