Citizenship provides immigrants access to higher education, more employment opportunities, and a sense of belonging. Social and cultural integration reduces stress and improves health. Naturalized citizens earn more than non-citizens, are less likely to live below the poverty level, and are less affected by economic downturns. This leads to stronger, more capable individuals, families and communities.

Will I sponsor an actual immigrant?

Yes. You will be matched with a specific citizenship client.

How much is sponsorship?

Citizenship Sponsors make a $100 donation.

How will my gift be spent?

Your gift will be combined with other funding sources to cover the costs of naturalization assistance.

Is my $100 Sponsorship gift tax-deductible?

Yes. Your donations are 100% tax-deductible.

How long will my sponsorship last?

Sponsorship lasts for as long as it takes your client to become a citizen. This is usually about three months. However, some cases are more complicated and require additional documentation which can make the process longer.

Can I sponsor more than one citizenship client?

Yes. You may sponsor as many clients as you’d like. Each individual sponsorship requires a $100 gift.

How Sponsorship Works

To sponsor a citizenship client you make a gift of $100. When you donate online you can make your gift in installments by checking the 'recurring payments' box.

As a Sponsor you will receive:

a sponsorship packet which includes a brief profile of a citizenship client, background information on the client’s ethnic group or country of origin
Periodic updates on how the client is progressing through the naturalization process
an invitation to St. James ESL citizenship celebrations
a unique perspective on what it’s like to become a naturalized citizen

Your sponsorship helps us to provide the citizenship client with:

eligibility screening for U.S. citizenship
in-person consultation
application preparation, review, and filing
interview prep
