Education Opportunities for Adult Catholics

St. James provides special opportunities throughout the year for adult Catholics to grow in their faith.  These include Bible study in Advent and Lent, the Summer Film Festival, and a variety of other events throughout the year.

Putting God First

Over the past two years, more than 300 Cathedral parishioners participated in our Lenten program, Putting God First. This program of reflection and discussion is all about discipleship. How can we follow Jesus more closely in our daily lives? How can we be good stewards of the many gifts God has given us? Each month, a special bulletin insert helps parishioners continue to reflect on the themes of stewardship we explored in Putting God First.  For more information, contact Maria Laughlin, 206-382-4284.

Returning Catholics... the “Welcome Back” Program

If you are a Catholic who has been away from the Church, and are thinking about returning, we would be happy to hear from you.  St. James Cathedral offers “Welcome Back," a parish program designed to help people return to the sacraments and to regular church attendance.  This special program is held several times throughout the year.  For more information, please call TerryAnn Bowen, 206-382-2018, or click here to visit the Welcome Back page.

Becoming Catholic... the RCIA Program

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process of initiation into the Catholic Community of Faith. The program provides religious education, faith formation and sacramental preparation for people seeking Baptism in the Catholic Church or full communion with the Catholic tradition through Profession of Faith, reception of Eucharist and Confirmation.  Click here to visit the RCIA page.

Children and Youth

Children's Religious Education for young people ages 4-17 is offered Sunday mornings, October through May.  Children learn about their faith and have opportunities to pray together, study scripture, and learn about the Mass through weekly dismissals to the Children's Liturgy of the Word and special youth celebrations at the Noon Mass on the First Sunday of the month.  Visit the Cathedral Kids' Page for more educational opportunities for kids as well as news and notices from the Children's Religious Education department.  Click here to visit and learn more!

Young Adults

St. James Cathedral Young Adults Ministry is for Cathedral Parishioners between the ages of 21 and 35. The focus of our group is to develop fellowship through service, social and educational opportunities planned throughout the year. Our goal is to broaden our faith, together, as peer members of St. James, and to explore, examine and develop an increased understanding of the issues important to young Catholic adults. And, above all, our purpose is to provide fun, enriching ways to foster active participation within the Cathedral community.  The St. James Young Adults have their own web page... click here to visit and learn more!
