6-month commitment / 1 hour a week, Thurs, 4:15-5:15pm
Assist limited English speaking, adult refugee(s) and/or low-income immigrant(s) to practice conversational English so that they can better achieve personal and professional goals, and become more fully involved in their community.

Advisory Board Member

2-year commitment / Hours per month and week vary Meet monthly with Advisory Board to develop and monitor strategic plans, organize and implement fundraising efforts, provide professional consultation, and oversee continuous improvement.

ESL Tutors

Provide English language instruction and cross-cultural orientation in an on-site tutoring room or at an off-site community location.

Lesson Planner

6 hours per month/flexible Use your professional experience as an ESL Teacher or TESOL student to provide tutors with lesson planning techniques and applications.

Volunteer Positions

Citizenship Tutors

Provide English language instruction based on U.S. History and Civics to help students prepare for the United States Citizenship Exam.

Research Assistant

2-6 hours per week Assist the St. James ESL Program in various research projects.
No current openings.

St. James ESL Tutors must be:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Fluent in English
  • Able to tutor twice a week
  • Available to make a 6-month commitment

Volunteer Recruiter

4 hours a week Assist staff with volunteer recruitment including posting ads online, attending volunteer fairs and making presentations at community centers and libraries. No current openings.

Office Volunteer

2 hours a week Provide administrative support to office staff by answering the phone, doing data entry, stuffing envelopes, responding to emails, making copies. No current openings.
