*Our Washington State Learning Standards are based on Equipped for the Future (EFF), a national initiative which stressed the importance of teaching to a student’s purposes, goals, needs, and interests.
Proliteracy articles cover teaching ideas related to reading, writing, listening and speaking, numeracy, or a practical application of literacy skills such as making a budget. Also included: an inspirational story about a learner or instructor.
Equipped for the Future (EFF), a standards-based instructional approach to teaching and learning focused on what students should know and be able to do. See example lessons and tools.

A National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy (NCSALL) quarterly publication. Presents interesting articles on ESL topics, best teaching practices and current research. Past issues accessible.
Weekly newspaper for adult ESL students. Articles written for different levels. Includes a teacher’s guide.
Outreach and Technical Assistance Network for Adult Educations EL/Civics, ESL Lesson plans, activities, and sites to use with students, and much more. Look for "Teaching Tools and Resources." You will need to register, but it's free.
Students can practice their conversation skills with a Skype tutor
to supplement their regular ESL tutoring.
All current ESL students are eligible.

Skype Tutoring is a short-term pilot project that will provide additional hours for ESL students and help them to achieve their goals faster.
It is funded by the Washington State Office of Adult Basic Education through a Program Development grant.
