"A lot of the stuff out there is for groups, I'm always looking for activities we can do one-on-one."

Ann McNally,  ESL Tutor

Ann  and her student, Jorge, play hangman to warm up before starting lessons. They have also been working on antonyms and synonyms by using the game Memory.

"I make flashcards of synonym or antonym pairs and lay them upside down on the table. Jorge and I take turns flipping over two cards, trying to get a pair (i.e., glad and happy if it's synonym memory, or glad and sad if it's antonym memory.) The person with the most pairs wins."

Homework for Students

"Jorge chooses a few Taboo cards and then writes a story using all the words on the card (i.e. lifeguard, pool, beach, swim, drown, save.)"
