Citizenship

Individual Tutoring & Group Instruction

Comprehensive Naturalization Assistance    

Citizenship exam instruction and interview preparation are provided to students who are unable to access traditionally-structured citizenship prep courses.

 

Staff provides application assistance and referrals to legal and medical resources.

 

 

Refugee Project    

Individual Tutoring & Group Instruction

 

Recently arrived refugees are matched with tutors for individual or small group instruction in English language and

cross-cultural orientation. Most students are referred by local resettlement agencies.

Location & Times
We provide tutoring and instruction throughout

King County. On-site instruction is available,

off-site instruction takes

place in public libraries and spaces provided by our community partners. Class times are determined by student, tutor and staff.

 

Instruction
Our instructors are volunteers trained through Tacoma Community House's Literacy NOW tutor training program.

 

Student Support
Bilingual and bi-cultural

staff provide students with mentoring, guidance and support.

 

Tutor In-Services

Instructional volunteers have the opportunity to take additional in-service workshops, consult with our Lesson Planning volunteer and use our Resource Library

 

General ESL Tutoring

Individual Tutoring

 

Students work with staff and tutor to develop  an individualized plan  of instruction, including goals, lesson plans and  assessment.  Tutoring may take place on-site or at  a location convenient to the student's home and agreed upon by staff, tutor and student.

 

 

 

 
 

 Community Mentors

 Group Instruction

Students are enrolled in neighborhood classes held in spaces provided by a community partner. Curriculum is based on student field trips and community-involvement projects. One student from each class is selected to be the Community Mentor, this student

receives additional

training in leadership and community resources.
